• Geology of Central Oregon: The Crooked River Caldera. This is a really excellent talk by retired USFS Geologist Carrie Gordon. It was given through the Deschutes County Library and I’ve watched it more than once. Highly recommend. Highlights:
  • The Crooked River Caldera’s source was the Yellowstone hotspot. There’s a super volcano in Bend’s backyard.
  • There is evidence of hydrothermal deposits very similar to the Yellowstone hydrothermal features today. 29 million years ago.
  • The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River is cutting through the young soft tufts just as the Crooked River did in Central Oregon.
